ANYA

Anya is a project named after the client’s newborn daughter. The house was designed as a family home where the children will grow up. The section is a circa 1000m2 plot of land off Cliff Road that tapers gently downhill.

The approach and entry to a home hold equal significance to the spaces contained within. Anya exemplifies this philosophy through its sculptural composition, where harmonious curves and earthy materials cascade down towards the front door, setting the stage for a seamless journey through the residence. This progression leads to expansive, open-plan living areas at the rear, which thoughtfully frame and embrace the sweeping views of the ocean beyond.

The taper in the contour allows for the house to be designed in 3 levels with the main living, circulation and guest positioned on the mid-level facing the street, the more private bedrooms above, and an entertainment and guest wing in the basement floor.

Due to the narrow width and long length of the site, the mass of the building has a central courtyard cut out from the middle to allow light to penetrate the spaces within. This courtyard is designed as a sheltered playground where the kids can run around with Mum and Dad supervising nearby.
